Rhône Valley Vineyards

Mistral

Violent for some, fiery for others, this dry north wind is the dominant and characteristic wind of the Mediterranean climate of the Southern Rhône Valley. Sometimes blowing at over 100 km/h, it clears the sky and makes doors slam! It can blow for several days in a row without stopping: in Provence, they say that the mistral makes you mad... However, a good blast of mistral after the rain dries the vines and preserves the health of the grapes. Remember this saying to plan for the next day: "Red sky in the evening, mistral to be expected"!
