Piquepoul noir

A rare grape variety, Piquepoul noir is appreciated for its fairly rich bouquet of flowers and fruits. It is elegant, not very tannic and fine, and is useful in blending red wines and especially rosés.

Plantings within the Rhône Valley AOCs: About 15 hectares

In the vineyards

Bunch and berries: Large clusters, with medium to large berries. The berries retain a slightly pink color when ripe.

Maturity: Mid- to late-ripening

Characteristics: Vigorous and productive grape variety, but susceptible to diseases (powdery mildew, grey rot, wood diseases).

In the cellars

Characteristics: Piquepoul noir produces lightly colored wines with light tannins and a lovely freshness. Their aromas are fine and floral. This natural freshness makes it an interesting grape variety in rosé wine blends.
