Indication Géographique Protégée (IGP)

Three letters that replace others, VdP, the initials for Vin De Pays. Since European harmonization, IGP (or PGIs : Protected Geographical Indications) have designated the intermediate category of wines, but this acronym also designates other agricultural products with a distinctive character, such as appellations of origin.

Examples of Vins de Pays that have become PGIs around the Rhône Valley: IGP Gard /  IGP Vaucluse / IGP Méditerranée / IGP Ardèche / IGP Drôme / IGP Coteaux de l’Ardèche IGP Comté de Grignan / IGP Principauté d’Orange / IGP Aigues / IGP Coteaux de Montélimar / IGP Collines rhodaniennes / IGP Coteaux des Baronnies / IGP Hautes-Alpes / IGP Alpes de Haute-Provence.
