Transparency

To appreciate the color of a wine, transparency is required! Colored glasses should be banned. Save them for a good mint tea.

Crystal, finesse and purity

The best of the best is crystal! Thin and transparent, it allows you to obtain glasses of great elegance, and delicate edges in contact with the lips. As a result, the wine takes on height and we gain in tasting quality! Another little plus, crystal keeps the wine fresh! Its material transmits less heat than classic glass. However, crystal glasses are expensive! We can now find new materials that perfectly imitate crystal, in addition to being much stronger.

Capacity

The capacity of a glass is also important. A large and wide glass allows the wine to reveal all its aromas and also to swirl it without watering its neighbor! You should know that a glass with a capacity of 35 ml is suitable for almost all wines, reds and dry whites. A good red wine can go up to a capacity of 50 or 70 ml, while a sparkling wine will prefer a glass of 25 to 35 ml, like a champagne flute.

The stemmed glass is the foot!

Stemmed glasses are aesthetic and elegant, but not only that! The foot protects the wine from the heat generated by your hands. This way, you avoid ending a long interesting conversation by drinking a wine that is too hot!

The shape of the glass

The rim

Above all, pay attention to the finesse of the rim. Glasses with thin edges benefit the wine. They offer elegance and lightness in the mouth.

“Tulip”, the versatile shape

The “tulip” shape is the most versatile shape that best adapts to the tasting of all wines. It is wide at its base and a little narrower at its mouth. In the round part of the glass, the wine is free to develop its aromas and subtlety, taking in oxygen. Thanks to the narrower rim, the aromas are concentrated to reach the taster's nose directly.

Now, have fun tasting a wine in different glasses. You will see that depending on the shape, your appreciation of it can change completely!
