In the vineyards

Ampelography: Pentagonal leaf with 3 lobes, including an elongated central lobe: Bourboulenc is sometimes said to "stick out its tongue". Branches and petioles are red, with some discoloration at the nodes.

Bunch and berries: Large, relatively loose bunches. Slightly pointed berries, with a thick skin that turns golden when ripe.

Maturity: Early-budding and late-ripening.

Characteristics:  Rustic and vigorous grape variety, quite productive.

Terroir: Cool and late areas should be avoided to ensure good maturity.

 

In the cellars

Characteristics: With very good acidity and a low alcohol level, it is a good blending base. It is not highly aromatic, but can be expressive and very fine when ripe. Its freshness offers an ideal structure for aging white wines.
